I’m the polar opposite of anti-maskers, in that no matter how low the risk of transmitting a disease in the future, I will be wearing a mask. It’s just a part of my going out clothes now.
Am I sick? Am I dysphoric? Am I trying to avoid the facial recognition technology of the dystopic modern age? None of your business, keep your distance.

New patent-free COVID vaccine developed as “gift to the world”
A new COVID-19 vaccine, developed by researchers from the Texas Children’s Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine, is being offered patent-free to vaccine manufacturers across the world. Human trials have shown the vaccine to be safe and effective, with India already authorizing its use as production ramps up to over 100 million doses per month. The vaccine has been named Corbevax and it is based on a traditional protein-based technology that has been safely used for decades. Like other COVID-19 vaccines, Corbevax focuses on the coronavirus spike protein, but instead of using mRNA to direct our cells to produce those spike proteins internally it delivers lab-grown spike proteins to the body. The researchers took the gene that codes for the spike protein and engineered yeast to produce it. These proteins are collected, purified, and combined with an adjuvant to enhance immune responses. This exact method has been used to produce the hepatitis B vaccine for years. “Protein-based vaccines have been widely used to prevent many other diseases, have proven safety records, and use economies of scale to achieve low-cost scalability across the world,” says Maria Elena Bottazzi, one of the lead researchers on the project.
It can not be overstates how important it is that this vaccine can be stored in a normal refrigerator and is easy to produce with affordable standard equipment that is already available almost everywhere because low-income countries have been using this same equipment to create hepatitis B vaccines. As a result, production cost will also be low: about $1.5 - $2 per dose.
Other cool things:
They deliberately made the vaccine vegan and halal to make sure more people are willing to take it.
These researchers aren’t just doing this because they’re ‘too late to cash in’. They have a track record of releasing patent-less vaccines and for the last two decades have focused on creating vaccines that are considered ‘not profitable enough’, like vaccines for parasites that primarily occur in low-income regions.

Waves of Americans are refusing to go on working terrible jobs for insulting salaries, and Conservatives are not happy about it.
Now they try to go about their daily ritual of driving their truck up to a window and screaming at it until a chicken sandwich comes out, and when that doesn’t work, because all the employees are gone, they take to Facebook: “What has this country come to?!” “What happened to the days when Americans would work long hours without complaining about things like…a living wage or basic human dignity?”
And you hear this and you’re just like “Man, y'all just really want slavery back, huh? Y'all still miss slavery that much?”
What is this insistence on licking the boot of these corporate overlords? Why is it so hard to understand that if they want people to continue sacrificing their health, time, and sanity by working for them in a pandemic, then they can compensate them commensurately for it—which, and I know it’s a novel concept in this capitalist Hellscape, means paying people enough money for both food and shelter.
And if they need to sell off an art wing or a racehorse portfolio to do that, so be it! If they refuse to do that, then they can hang up the “For Sale” sign and shut the fuck up. That’s how shit works. There’s nothing un-American about any of this.
The movement isn’t lazy, it’s necessary.
And I just think it’s funny that it’s happening at the same time as thousands of Conservatives are walking away from their jobs…because of their inalienable right to cast the plague onto your grandma!
That’s right: apparently, if you leave your job because you’re tired of being a faceless cog in an inherently disrespectful machine that refuses to acknowledge your worth as a human being, that makes you lazy and entitled. But if you leave your job because you refuse to take even the most basic of precautions in the middle of the greatest global health crisis any of us have ever known, that makes you a “Patriot”, and a “Freedom-Fighter”.
These people think they have the fundamental right to endanger the health and safety of those around them, because they find that wearing a mask makes it a little harder to mouth-breathe, and then they call everyone else entitled? My ass, man.
But ultimately I hope that both sides continue to leave their jobs; the former because it’s the right thing to do and the right message to send, and the latter ‘cause we don’t really need them dumbin’ up the works anyway.
Love y'all.
Maybe if instead of the vague cutesy term “brain fog” we use the more directly accurate term “neurological damage”, that will help ppl stop seeing that as a “minor” outcome of covid
Brain fog is a term that has been in use by disabled people for a specific type of symptom for at least 30 years. Instead of blaming disabled people for not being taken seriously when they try to discuss issues they face in the most understandable way possible, let’s look at why doctors refuse to take patients seriously when they say “I can’t think clearly, like a thick fog has covered my brain”
Brain fog was never a “cutesy term” before covid, and it isnt the fault of people who experience it that it’s the best way we can think of to talk about this symptom when hey, we’re experiencing it
Abled people are treating basically every part of long covid as “minor” and its affecting people who have experienced these symptoms their entire lives severely. It’s not disabled people’s fault abled people refuse to take our illnesses seriously and it’s not the fault of the terms we made for ourselves and use

if you have Norton Antivirus or Norton VPN, delete the software ASAP.
Norton is automatically installing and running a cryptocurrency mining program in the backgrounds of their users. There is no text box asking to confirm the use of this program and is installed automatically, it runs during “downtime” on your computer . While the official announcement said that this program was exclusive to the US, international users are reporting it as well. We don’t know the exact scope yet.
To delete this program, must go into the files (Program Files/Norton) and delete the file NCrypt.exe. It will ask for the admin permission. (Some report having admin permissions on their computer but being unable to delete the program.) If the software is already downloaded to your computer, I would NOT recommend continuing to use Norton, as there is no guarantee that the .exe file won’t return in another update.
Tell your friends and family, reblog, spread this, please. It’s barely been getting any attention, and I worry that Norton is setting a precedent that other companies will repeat. However, if a large (or very vocal) part of the userbase continues to complain, it may make Norton or other companies think twice before mining crypto on your computer.
Confirmed on Norton’s website ¼/22.
This was trialed in their early access program in June of last year, and is now included with all subscriptions.
Don’t want to mine cryptocurrency? You should use a different antivirus.
Windows Defender is actually pretty good last I checked.
…UGH. :/
I hate how a lot of cultural appropriation discourse has forgotten the reason why it started appearing. It wasn’t meant to punish white people for being ignorant and ban them from partaking in other cultures.
It was a discussion meant to draw attention that people of colour were constantly being overlooked or punished for the exact same things that white people were celebrated for. It was meant to elevate people of colour to an understanding and respect that white people had been afforded for years, often unearned.
So seeing people go “white people don’t partake in anything that isn’t white” misses a lot of nuance in the discussion, because a lot of different cultures ARE willing to share and allow people into their culture on their own terms and in a respectful matter.
There’s a massive difference between a white person going “I just invented the BEST version of this” where everything had been watered down and stripped away versus one going “I try out this thing to appreciate cultures and viewpoints that aren’t my own”.
As a first generation Asian Australian whose own cultural identity is a massive clusterfuck I do think we need to remember that cultural exchange and sharing is incredibly important for an ever changing and global culture.
Nothing I’ve read has changed me more than “you do people a favor by accepting their help” like I repeat this constantly to so many people because it’s true!!! People like to feel useful, they like to feel kind, they like to feel like they have an ability to impact people’s lives so just let them!! Not everything is a thing to be owed back — accept people’s kindness without making a competition out of it
Just thinking about this today like I was ringing up a woman at the store and she was a dollar short but somebody had tipped me (personally, not the whole staff) a couple bucks earlier and I was like here take one of these and she was so shocked I would do that and made a point to remember my name and thanked me so much over like. One dollar. And then later another customer asked to pay for another couple’s drinks and they were so surprised and trying to buy them something in return but clearly that person just wanted to do something nice and they ended up having a long conversation and laughed together and it would have been so awkward if they’d completely refused or tried to give them money back and it would have ruined the moment. It’s the easiest thing to just pay forward kindness but that also means you have to accept people’s kindness when it comes around to you.
